CAFCASS – Parenting Plan and Family Meeting Pilot

CAFCASS (Child and Family Court Advisory Support Service) are providing a new, free service to separating parents who need additional help to work out arrangements for their children.  This is a pilot project available to families who live in Greater Manchester.  If you are working with parents who are experiencing:-

  • conflict over arrangements, such as where a child will live
  • disagreements over day to day matters, such as pick-ups or holidays
  • difficulty in communicating with each other after separation
  • difficulty in adapting to changes, such as a new partner or potential relocation

then think about directing them to the new service, the Parenting Plan and Family Meeting Pilot. Both parents will meet with a  CAFCASS practitioner who will support them to make lasting arrangements about their child’s upbringing, by using a Parenting Plan.

This service may help fill a gap for professionals who are approached by parents experiencing difficulty after separation and who don’t know where to seek help; or those parents who may have considered court but will now have to pay for proceedings following changes in legal aid.  The pilot will operate until at least the 31 August 2016.
